5 Daily Tips for Nourishing Your Skin from the Inside Out

In my latest video, I offer some natural tips for taking care of your skin from the inside out, every day! Healthy skin starts with good nutrition and proper digestion. While what you apply to your skin matters, we often get caught up in lotions and potions and forget that our daily habits can greatly influence our skin’s health.

In the video, I share 5 daily practices for nurturing your skin from within. Here’s a quick rundown of my tips:

1. Nourish: Consume Detoxifying and Anti-inflammatory Foods
Incorporate detoxifying and anti-inflammatory foods into your daily diet.

2. Avoid Harmful Foods: Cut Down on Junk Food
To achieve healthy skin, reduce or eliminate foods that promote inflammation, such as sugar, dairy, gluten, and certain vegetable oils like corn and canola. Sugar is particularly problematic as it raises inflammatory insulin levels and triggers excess oil production. If you haven’t tried a sugar detox, now might be the time! Check out my episode on The Joyous Health Podcast about my journey of kicking sugar.

3. Stay Hydrated: Drink More Water
Drinking water is the most affordable and straightforward way to enhance your skin’s health. It prevents dehydration, supports elasticity, and helps your skin glow by flushing out toxins. Without enough water, your skin’s protective barrier weakens and becomes less smooth. Try adding fresh lemon, apple cider vinegar, or digestive bitters to your water for a refreshing boost.

4. Consider Natural Supplements
Supplements can be beneficial for skin health. One worth mentioning is GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), an omega-6 fatty acid known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It nourishes your skin, enhancing moisture, elasticity, and firmness. Collagen is another supplement that I use daily in my tea or smoothies to rejuvenate skin.

5. Practice Skinimalism
When it comes to skincare, less is often more! Have you ever checked the ingredients in your face wash or moisturizer? Many contain chemicals that can disrupt hormones and irritate the skin. That’s why I recommend our Skin Care Duo, which avoids harmful chemicals and supports healthier skin from the inside out.

And now for some feedback from viewers:

Deborah says: “I really appreciate your skincare products. My skin feels clean, healthy, and radiant. Thank you for sharing your expertise!”

Cathy writes: “Three years ago, I changed my diet significantly, which led me to discover your website. I’m considering reassessing my skincare routine and wondering about the safety of Mary Kay products I’ve used for 20 years. Are they toxic? I am considering switching to your products.”

In response, I mention to Cathy: “I’m not quite sure how ‘clean’ Mary Kay products are. Often, the label ‘paraben-free’ is misleading as it might include other harmful preservatives. Transparency is crucial, and here’s a link to learn about our skincare products.”

Robyn asks why sunscreen isn’t included, and I explain: “While this post focuses on internal care for skin health, I do discuss skincare and sunscreen elsewhere. I personally use sunscreen year-round.”

Readers are also encouraged to share their thoughts, like checking out links to other holistic skincare blogs.

Finally, a reader asks: “Is linolenic acid the same as GLA?” I clarify: “GLA stands for gamma-linolenic acid. The amount of linolenic acid in some prenatal supplements might be low, so choose supplements based on your skin health goals.”
