I often get questions about my hair care routine, and while I’m flattered, I’ll be honest: it hasn’t always been like this. My hair only became thicker and shinier after I switched to natural personal care products, including natural shampoo and conditioner, and began focusing on my diet, lifestyle, and supplements.
As part of my #AskJoyous YouTube series, I’m answering a question from the Joyous Health community today: “I struggle with frizzy hair. What is your hair care routine?” In my latest YouTube video, I share my tips for achieving healthy, luscious, frizz-free hair!

What’s been most effective for you in managing frizzy hair?
Hello Joy,
Could you explain why applying an acid to your hair helps with frizz and makes it silky smooth?
Thanks, Erin
Hi Joy!
Love your blog and videos! Can you recommend a quality hair powder? I’ve stopped using my usual brand after finding out it contains propane and butane. So gross! I was using regular baby powder instead, but I miss how effective the other stuff was. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Nicole,
I recommend “skinny skinny” dry shampoo; it’s organic and affordable. I buy mine at 889 Yoga in Toronto. You might find it by googling for a nearby retailer or purchasing online.
Thanks for your quick reply! I found several retailers in NYC, and I can’t wait to choose my favorite fragrance.
I tried the apple cider vinegar rinse and saw amazing results! My hair is now smooth, frizz-free, and much shinier. It’s impressive how the whole process took less than five minutes and cost almost nothing with ingredients I already had at home. Thank you, Joy!
Hello Joy,
What would you recommend for thin, oily hair? I try not to wash every day, going 2-3 days without washing and using dry shampoo in between. However, my hair still seems dull. Any tips? Thank you!
Hi Danielle,
When you say “dull,” are you referring to a lack of shine or volume? Dry shampoo can reduce shine since it absorbs oil. Consider using it sparingly if that’s the issue. Have you tried the apple cider vinegar rinse Joy mentioned in her video? I’ve found it quite helpful.
Thank you, Kate! I meant my hair lacks volume and lies flat. I’ll try the ACV spray. Thanks!
Here’s a simple hair mask with olive oil: apply 2-3 tablespoons to your hair, comb it through, leave it for 30 minutes, then gently massage for 1-2 minutes and rinse with water. I do this twice a week.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Joy,
Can you suggest alternatives to fish oil supplements for someone with allergies to fish products?
Thank you!
Sonja
The NutraSea brand offers a vegan DHA sourced from algae, not fish. Hope that helps!
Hi Joy!
I love the idea of making my own beauty products, but I struggle with apple cider vinegar. I’ve read studies suggesting it might make hair brittle. What’s your experience? Also, I’m unsure about using non-natural beauty products. Are they really that bad? Is all-natural always best? Don’t product manufacturers know what’s good for us? Please help, I love your work but I’m skeptical.
P.S.: Any tips for cleaning pores would be great!
Hi Adela,
You bring up a good point; not all chemicals are harmful. However, many aren’t thoroughly tested, and we follow the rule of “if you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your body,” ensuring safety. We’ve found ACV makes hair stronger and shinier, not brittle.
