Hello Joyous Readers!
I’m thrilled to be back with a new recipe to share. Today, I’m introducing a simple, all-natural blush made from just two ingredients. It’s incredibly easy to make, and best of all, you don’t have to worry about any harmful chemicals found in store-bought makeup. Plus, you can adjust the shade to perfectly suit your taste!
The beautiful, vibrant pink color of this blush comes from beetroot powder. It’s about as natural as you can get since it’s made from powdered vegetables! If you’re familiar with cooking with beets, you know how pigmented they are. The juice from beets acts like a strong dye, making beetroot powder an ideal choice for creating a bright pink blush.
To ensure the blush suits everyone’s complexion, we add arrowroot powder, which is white, to balance out the color. I start with a 1:1 ratio of beetroot powder to arrowroot powder as a base. From there, you can personalize it to the exact shade you prefer! Add more beetroot powder for a deeper pink, more arrowroot powder to lighten it, or even a dash of cacao powder for a browner hue.
While beetroot and arrowroot powder might seem like uncommon ingredients, they’re actually quite easy to find. Arrowroot powder is often used in gluten-free baking, so your local grocery store might have it. Beetroot powder is available online in bulk and can be found in capsules in the vitamin aisle of many drug stores.
Adding essential oils is optional, but I love incorporating a bit of lavender oil into my blush. Lavender has antibacterial and antifungal properties and its calming scent offers a bit of aromatherapy for your face!
Here’s the basic recipe: Remember, you can tweak the shade as you like by adding more beetroot powder for a pinker color, more arrowroot to soften the pink, or cacao for a touch of brown.

How do you make beetroot powder? Can you buy it in stores?
Hey Meghan!
Yes, you can buy beetroot powder at a natural health store, either in capsules or as a powder. If you ask for assistance at your local health store, they’ll point you in the right direction. Let us know your thoughts!

Hi! How long can we store it in an airtight container? Thank you!
Hello Mare-Pier!
It should last at least three months. Since it doesn’t contain liquid, except for essential oils, it might last even longer. The antibacterial properties of lavender could also extend its shelf life. Hope that helps!
