Every day, you’ll come across countless ads promoting creams, makeup, and various beauty products that boast the inclusion of trending superfoods in their ingredients. The natural beauty trend is booming right now, and I’m all for it!
However, there’s a more affordable, simple, and effective way to embrace the beauty superfood movement—just eat these superfoods instead of applying them to your skin! The produce aisle is always going to offer beauty solutions at a fraction of the price compared to the cosmetics counter. Plus, when you consume these nutritious superfoods, you’re nourishing every cell in your body, not just the surface skin layers, giving you a radiant glow from the inside out!
Here are some of my favorite beauty-enhancing superfoods:
**Cinnamon**
Many of us loved cinnamon-flavored lip balms back in junior high, but it’s the spice’s ability to balance blood sugar that truly makes it a beauty booster. When your blood sugar is stable, your body can maintain balanced hormone levels, which is great news for anyone dealing with acne due to hormones. Try sprinkling cinnamon on your next nut milk latte, adding it to a smoothie, or make my Cinnamon Almond Butter!
**Turmeric**
Though turmeric turns everything it touches a vibrant yellow, it’s meant to be enjoyed in your meals, not applied to your skin! With its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is more effective when ingested to soothe dull or inflamed skin than any cream. It adds flavor and color to curry recipes, enhances smoothies, or try my Organic Crunchy Snack: Turmeric Sea Salt Popcorn!
**Walnuts**
Walnuts have been regarded as a brain food since ancient Rome due to their appearance, but their real benefit comes from omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats fight inflammation and support the production of natural skin oils, keeping your skin soft and smooth. Enjoy a handful as a snack, mix them into granola, or make my Mochaccino Extra Energy Smoothie.
**Cucumber**
We’ve all seen spa scenes where guests have cucumber slices on their eyes, and there’s a good reason for it! Cucumbers are mostly water, so eating them hydrates your skin from the inside effectively. The non-water parts are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients, which help combat free radical damage. Cucumbers are ideal for fresh juice recipes, chilled soups, or try my Strawberry Cucumber Salad with Toasted Almonds.
**Limes**
While I’ve often shared my love for lemon water, limes deserve attention too! Like lemons, limes are rich in vitamin C, a key antioxidant that protects against free radical damage from environmental toxins, which can lead to visible skin aging. Swap lemons for limes in your morning water ritual, add them to juice recipes, or try my Key Lime Avocado Tart.
Do you have any beauty superfoods you’d like to add to this list?
