6 Factors that Harm Your Skin + How to Fix Them

I recently made a video titled “5 Habits for Healthy Skin from Within,” where I discussed how your daily routines impact your skin’s health. Being the body’s largest organ, your skin is influenced by what you eat, how much water you drink, and the supplements you consume. However, many people still think that achieving beautiful skin requires expensive face creams. While skincare products can definitely help, they’re not the only solution.

In today’s video, I cover six factors that can harm your skin’s health and offer solutions for each one. I’ll explain how lack of sleep, chronic stress, endocrine-disrupting chemicals, vegetable oils, sugar, and dairy can affect your skin.

Here are the factors that can negatively impact your skin and how to address each one:

**Lack of Sleep**: A study published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dermatology found that people who sleep 7–9 hours a night have more moisturized skin that heals better after sun exposure compared to those who sleep less than 5 hours.

**Chronic Stress**: Chronic stress can lead to inflammation, hasten skin aging, cause wrinkles, and trigger various skin conditions from acne to rosacea. Over time, it can also break down collagen and elastin. Most clients I’ve seen who appear older than their biological age often report high stress levels.

**Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals**: These chemicals interfere with the natural rhythm of hormones, affecting the endocrine system, which is crucial for maintaining overall body balance. They’re found in cosmetics, personal care products, household cleaners, water, food, and more.

**Refined Vegetable Oils**: The use of these oils has surged in recent years, but they’re best avoided due to their heavy processing and chemical treatment.

**Sugar**: Sugar increases blood sugar and insulin levels, which can prompt your oil glands to produce more oil, raising the risk of acne.

**Processed Dairy**: Studies have shown a link between dairy consumption and skin issues like acne and eczema.

I hope these insights help improve any skin concerns you may have. You might also enjoy exploring my Joyous Detox Cookbook for further tips.
