In our pursuit of beauty, we often find ourselves reaching for the latest trendy eye cream or face mask, hoping to achieve flawless skin. While I do enjoy a good beauty product, I used to believe that the secret to perfect skin solely relied on topical applications. However, I’ve come to realize just how significantly our diet and lifestyle choices impact our skin’s appearance.
For example, when I was hooked on sugar, I frequently noticed a “puffy” look in my face. After a night of drinking, I’d wake up with red, inflamed skin. The Joyous Detox program really helped change that for me!
As you can see, what we eat can make a huge difference to our skin quite rapidly. Consuming foods that irritate the skin, such as gluten, dairy, sugar, alcohol, and coffee, can trigger the release of pro-inflammatory hormones. This can lead to conditions like rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, and skin redness.
Once we understand the impact these foods have on our skin, we can also realize that glowing, radiant skin is within reach. All it takes is nourishing our bodies with skin-friendly foods and adopting supportive lifestyle practices!
YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CREATE NATURAL BEAUTY FROM WITHIN!
I incorporate several practices into my routine to care for my skin, but here are my top five dietary and lifestyle habits, or “health hacks,” that I swear by:
### 5 Health Hacks To Achieve Radiant Skin
1. **Get Outside Every Day**
I make it a point to enjoy daily walks in our local park with my family. It’s one of my favorite ways to boost energy and relieve stress, and it also increases serotonin levels, which helps improve mood. When you’re truly happy, you naturally glow! Plus, being outside allows you to absorb vitamin D from the sun, essential for immune support, mood regulation, and healthy skin.
2. **Eat Beautifying Foods**
What you consume greatly affects your skin. A simple rule for eating beauty-enhancing foods is to include as many colorful, nutrient-rich options as possible in your meals. Colorful foods are loaded with phytonutrients, many of which have antioxidant properties that reduce inflammation, often the source of skin issues. Eating fish, which is rich in omega-3s, is also excellent for achieving clear, glowing skin.
3. **Prioritize Sleep**
It’s not surprising that lack of sleep can leave you with puffiness and eye bags. Less than eight hours of sleep can raise levels of inflammation-causing chemicals in your body, accelerating skin aging. Sleep deprivation can also increase appetite hormones, making your body crave not-so-skin-friendly foods like sugar and refined carbs. Prioritizing good sleep can eliminate these cravings and support skin health.
4. **Jade Roller**
I’m a big fan of my Province Apothecary Jade Roller. It’s the best DIY face massage tool! Massaging increases circulation and can brighten and de-puff your skin in minutes. A budget-friendly alternative is using a cold spoon, although it’s not quite the same.
5. **Water**
While it might seem basic, water is crucial for overall health and particularly beneficial for skin health. It aids digestion, circulation, and toxin elimination, helping to prevent blemishes and acne. If drinking enough water is challenging, try eating more hydrating foods like watermelon and strawberries, or soups and smoothies.
**Tips for Increasing Your Water Intake:**
Consider adding lemon for added skin benefits, as it promotes liver detoxification.
