If you’re a mushroom enthusiast like me, this soup is perfect for you! While not everyone shares our love for mushrooms, we can forgive them. This delightful soup is packed with nutrients that provide deep nourishment, thanks to the maitake, shiitake, and cremini mushrooms.
These mushrooms are remarkable superfoods known for their healing properties. They can help prevent cancer, boost immunity, and assist in controlling blood sugar levels. Rich in essential nutrients like selenium, B vitamins, vitamin D, and zinc, mushrooms are also loaded with phytonutrients, including polysaccharides that support gut health.
The ginger and turmeric in this soup offer powerful anti-inflammatory benefits, helping to reduce inflammatory chemicals in the body. Consuming these ingredients regularly—or supplementing them—can lead to decreased pain levels. Food truly is medicine, and by enjoying it regularly while cutting out sugar and other inflammatory foods, you can help reduce bodily pain.
This mushroom soup invigorates me from head to toe, and I’m confident it’ll do the same for you. It features three types of mushrooms, each offering unique health benefits:
– **Cremini Mushrooms:** These are meaty and flavorful, offering more intrigue than white button mushrooms, though they share a similar size and texture.
– **Maitake Mushrooms:** Known for their earthy and grounding taste, maitake mushrooms have been used medicinally in ancient cultures for centuries.
– **Shiitake Mushrooms:** With their spongy texture and earthy flavor, shiitake mushrooms have also been utilized medicinally by ancient cultures for ages.
Here’s the recipe for my Feel Good Mushroom Soup. It serves 5-6 people. If you plan on adding lentils, do so after the stock, and you might need more stock depending on your preferred soup consistency. Without additional stock, the soup will be thick—possibly too thick—so adjust it to your liking. You’re in control!
As shown in the photo below, I also baked a loaf of Sassy Seed Bread over the weekend, which paired perfectly with this Feel Good Mushroom Soup. If you’re craving more mushroom recipes, take a look at my Wild Mushroom Soup and Wild Mushroom Tartine—both are delicious and nourishing!
Wishing you a joyous week!

You’re welcome, Robyn!
Hey Joy! Thank you for this recipe; I’ve just gathered the ingredients to try it. Have you tried any specific dried herbs that work well, like oregano? Thanks again!
Hi Joy. I’m excited to make this soup. Can I substitute anything for tamari?
You could use coconut aminos instead, or simply leave it out. Enjoy!
I used dried Italian seasoning, but I also really love tarragon. Tarragon pairs wonderfully with mushrooms!
