Healthy Habits for Breast Care

Healthy Habits for Breast Care

Back in 2012, I shared this post after discussing natural health tips for breast care on The Morning Show. Now, eight years later, these habits remain vital for maintaining healthy breasts. Surprisingly, 85% of breast cancer cases occur in women with no family history. Just like chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, diet and lifestyle have a huge impact and should be part of our approach to nurturing our breast health. Since many of us know someone affected by breast cancer—or are survivors ourselves—it’s crucial to be proactive about breast care.

My approach is centered on prevention, as I believe eradicating cancer means preventing it before it starts. Whether you are battling cancer or are a survivor, these tips can help you achieve the healthiest and happiest body possible. Consider this plan a solid beginning; it’s just scratching the surface of the actions you can take to ward off cancer.

1. Dry brush your skin 3 to 4 times a week.
This practice feels amazing! It promotes the movement of lymph fluid, which can stagnate due to prolonged sitting. Enhancing lymph flow is crucial for detoxification and immune function. The brush I recommend is made of natural fibers, handcrafted by women in Sri Lanka.

2. Take vitamin D daily.
Research links vitamin D deficiency to a higher breast cancer risk. In winter, supplements are essential since sunlight is limited. In summer, aim for daily, mindful sun exposure.

3. Opt for natural personal care and beauty products.
Switch to aluminum-free deodorants. Conventional products can contain many harmful ingredients that disrupt hormones and affect immunity. Avoid the “toxic 10” ingredients. Have you tried our natural aluminum-free deodorants yet?

4. Cultivate a positive mindset.
A positive attitude can profoundly impact your hormonal balance, as stress is linked to disease. Meditation is my go-to method for supporting a positive outlook; it’s truly transformed my life.

5. Move your body several times a day.
Regular movement helps maintain a healthy body fat level. Fat cells generate estrogen, and excess fat can raise the risk of certain cancers.

6. Avoid underwire bras.
Let your breasts be free! I ditched underwire bras 15 years ago with no regrets. There are supportive alternatives that don’t shove your breasts into unnatural positions, allowing better lymph flow and drainage.

Effective detoxification is also key in preventing breast cancer. A well-detoxifying body eliminates toxins so cells can function properly. Regular bowel movements are a simple yet crucial part of detoxification. Aim for one to two quality bowel movements daily, and consider the Joyous Detox if you need help with regularity.

Eating a high-fiber diet is another effective way to lower breast cancer risk. Check out my recipes page or any of my three best-selling cookbooks for inspiration. Below are some of my top picks for high-fiber, nutrient-rich, and delicious recipes that promote healthy breasts:

A healthy body starts with you, so keep your breasts happy!

Thanks for sharing such great information! I’m loving your new “posters”—the organic one is fantastic too!

Any recommendations for a chemical-free, organic, non-underwire bra? I’m interested but unsure where to start.

What was the name of the tea you mentioned during the morning show on breast health?

It was Turmeric Ginger Tea by Celebrations—highly recommend the brand!

I appreciate the dry brushing advice. Having worn underwire for years, I’m curious if other options will offer adequate support.
