Homemade Moisturizing Facial Mask

Homemade Moisturizing Facial Mask

Walker and I had a blast doing an Instagram LIVE video where we made a hydrating face mask. Since I was already wearing makeup, we decided to try the mask on Walker’s face, which was a fun twist—he’s always game for anything!

I love using face masks and make sure to do one weekly. Hydrating masks are my favorite because they’re excellent for preventing early wrinkles. In the photo, you can see Walker with my apron tied around his head to keep his curls intact while we applied the mask.

This face mask is super hydrating, soothes the skin, and offers a bit of exfoliation—perfect for reviving tired skin. Let’s dive into the ingredients! The key ingredient is fermented Aloe from New Chapter. This superfood powder is edible, making nutrients more available through fermentation. Although we’re using it on our faces, our skin can still benefit from its goodness. If you don’t have it, you can order from Amazon or extract gel from a fresh aloe stem. Aloe has been revered for thousands of years and was called the “plant of immortality” by ancient Egyptians.

Next, we have grass-fed sheep’s milk yogurt, but any yogurt will do. The less processed, the better. You could even use kefir or coconut yogurt if you’re avoiding dairy. Lots of great options available!

Last but not least is honey. I used Manuka honey for its reputed therapeutic benefits, but any unpasteurized honey will work. Manuka might have more advantages simply because other types haven’t been studied as much.

When I’m not mixing my own masks, I enjoy using Consonant’s DHE face mask, a Joyous Health Approved product!

Here’s how to make my DIY Hydrating Face Mask:
*Note: I used Sheep’s milk yogurt it was on hand, but you could use coconut yogurt as a non-dairy alternative.

To apply the mask, start with a damp face and clean hands, and spread the mixture with your fingers. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Wipe off with a warm cloth, then apply your usual oil or moisturizer. I recommend Consonant Skincare’s face oils—also Joyous Health Approved!

Joy, the mask sounds amazing, especially with the fermented aloe! I’m excited to try it!

Thanks! Enjoy!

Hi Joy, my family follows a non-dairy diet due to lactose intolerance. Can I use coconut yogurt instead?
Absolutely!

Can I substitute aloe with 100% Pure Aloe Vera Gel? And is it suitable for my teenage son?
Yes and yes! Enjoy.

Hey Joy, I love DIY face masks too and use natural ingredients. I also like Korean face masks for quick results, followed by moisturizing creams for healthy skin. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the feedback! I’m sure you’ll love trying this mask—it’s so simple to make, and you know exactly what’s in it!

I usually make my own masks using jojoba oil, freshly squeezed orange juice, and raw honey for my oily skin. Jojoba oil is great because it mimics natural sebum, helping regulate oil production. I get mine from Virginic as they’re organic, vegan, and cruelty-free. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
This sounds wonderful for oily skin!

Is there a vegan substitute for honey?
Not really—omitting it is probably your best bet.

Hi Joy! I’m looking for a face scrub recipe with turmeric that you mentioned before. Could you guide me to it?
Here you go! Just be cautious as turmeric may stain skin temporarily: [Turmeric Honey Paste Recipe](https://www.joyoushealth.com/21278-blog-natural-beauty-turmeric-honey-paste-and-superfoods-for-skin)
