Just when you thought my famous Almond Flour Cake couldn’t be topped, I’ve done it again! Okay, maybe I’m a little excited here, but I truly believe I’ve created an incredibly delicious cake that’s completely nut-free and gluten-free. I know many people, especially parents with kids who are allergic to nuts, often feel left out, and I wanted to change that.
Introducing the Banana Hemp Cake (be sure to check out the video)! This might just become your favorite treat for special occasions, like a Friday afternoon break or Sunday tea with your best friend. Enjoying a tasty dessert can make any moment special and memorable.
If you love banana bread, you’re really going to LOVE this banana hemp cake. Inspired by my Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, this cake is even better because the hemp hearts give it an extra boost of health benefits.
Hemp hearts, also known as shelled hemp seeds, are the soft inner part of hemp seeds and are packed with nutrients.
Here are some benefits of hemp hearts:
1. **Rich in Protein**: Hemp hearts are a great plant-based protein source with all nine essential amino acids, making them perfect for vegetarians, vegans, or anyone wanting to increase their protein intake.
2. **High in Healthy Fats**: They are loaded with essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6 in a balanced 3:1 ratio, which support heart health, brain function, and reduce inflammation.
3. **Good Source of Fiber**: While most of the fiber is in the seeds’ shells, hemp hearts still contain some fiber, aiding digestion, stabilizing blood sugar, and promoting fullness.
4. **Loaded with Vitamins and Minerals**: They’re rich in essential nutrients like vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, and zinc, which support immune health, bone strength, and energy production.
Here is the delicious Banana Hemp Cake recipe. It serves 9 generously. Enjoy!
Can you substitute eggs without affecting the taste? If so, how? Are there any tried and tested egg substitute recipes I could reference? I haven’t tested this recipe with flax or chia eggs, but my readers often try different substitutes and share their findings in the comments. I’ll update the recipe if an egg-free version works well.
Hi Joy, this cake is amazing! Even my family, who are really picky eaters, loved it!!!
Best wishes from Germany!
P.S. Do you have a tool or site where European followers can convert cups to grams? I often struggle with this in your recipes…
Thanks, Joy. I need to avoid gluten, cow dairy, corn products, AND eggs. Could you suggest the best egg substitute for this recipe, like applesauce, chia or flax seeds, or a commercial egg replacement?

It’s challenging to advise on this as I haven’t tried making this cake egg-free.
Hi Guna! I’m thrilled that you’re enjoying my recipes, but sorry about the struggle! If you google “recipe converter cups to grams,” you’ll find many useful tools. I don’t have a specific one I use, but that’s how I usually figure it out.
Hello Joy, can I substitute almond flour with brown rice flour or oat flour?
Thank you.
Almond flour has more texture and absorbs less liquid, so you can try, but you might need to reduce the liquid ingredients in the recipe.
