Six Beloved Herbs You Can Cultivate Anywhere

Six Beloved Herbs You Can Cultivate Anywhere

Putting together this post and video was an absolute joy! Back in April, Vienna and I began growing sprouts from seeds, which was a delightful distraction amid the uncertainties of the pandemic. This experience inspired me to transform my balcony into a full urban garden filled with a variety of herbs, vegetables, and even some non-edible plants.

Working on this project with Vienna has been a lot of fun. We water our herbs every day because our balcony gets full sun all day long. It’s great to get our hands dirty, which is also beneficial for our microbiome. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to connect with each other—I love teaching Vienna about gardening—and with nature!

We’ve taken our salads to a whole new level by adding at least three different herbs to each one. Enhancing your meals with herbs is a fantastic way to boost their nutritional value. Herbs are rich in antioxidants, which help protect your cells from damage.

In my video, I share my top six favorite herbs that I use all the time. Although dill didn’t make it into my garden this time, it deserves an honorable mention as it’s equally delicious and nourishing.

Here are some tasty recipes featuring fresh herbs:

– **Basil**
– **Mint**
– **Oregano (also known as “Mountain Joy”)**: This is a key ingredient in Italian seasoning, making it perfect for pizza or pasta.
– **Tarragon**: Pairs wonderfully with chicken dishes and is delightful in scrambled eggs.
– **Parsley**: Often overlooked, parsley adds both nutrition and flavor. It makes me think I need to share a tabbouleh recipe soon.
– **Rosemary**

Regarding the green planter you asked about, I bought it at my local Home Hardware. It’s been sold out since May, but I’m hoping they’ll restock because I’d love another one!

As for growing herbs, I’ve used both seeds and purchased plants. If possible, I recommend buying organic plants and seeds to avoid pesticides and fungicides. Dried herbs are also great and retain many antioxidant properties.

If you’re thinking about drying herbs this fall, I plan to do so if I have any left! We’ve been enjoying them so much that I’ve had to give them a little time to regrow.

In case you’re wondering about the other comments in your message, discussing herbal remedies outside of gardening, it’s essential to seek advice from qualified healthcare providers to address any health concerns.

I hope you found the video enjoyable! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
