Velvety Cashew Milk with Vanilla

Velvety Cashew Milk with Vanilla

**Jump to Recipe**

Hello, lovely reader! I’m thrilled to introduce a new recipe video to you. If you’ve tried my homemade almond milk already, I hope you enjoyed it and have made it a household favorite instead of the store-bought variety. Many people find that once they start making their own nut milks, they’re amazed at how much better it tastes.

Making it yourself is also healthier since you’re likely avoiding added salt, preservatives, and flavoring agents like carrageenan. Cashews are becoming a popular choice for homemade milk, even though they technically belong to the legume family. These days, you can’t visit a juice bar without noticing cashew chocolate milk or cashew hemp milk on the menu. However, while these options are better than store-bought cashew milks, drinking them daily could become quite expensive.

The great news is that making cashew milk at home is both affordable and delicious. It allows you to customize the ingredients as you like! I love making this creamy, nourishing milk, and my little one enjoys it as well. My top recommendation for nut milk is to add vanilla bean powder. Make sure you buy a version without additives or fillers; some may include sugar, which you definitely don’t need because you’re sweet enough already!

I use the Organic Traditions brand, made from certified organic vanilla beans, so it’s completely pure. The fragrance is incredible. It’s also a delightful addition to baked goods. I also included medjool dates in my recipe (they were wonderfully plump) to add natural sweetness and balance the nutty cashew flavor. Check out the recipe video and card below, and don’t forget to scroll down for the nutritional benefits of cashews.

### Reader Comments

**Joy:** I’m absolutely hooked on cashew milk right now, so naturally, I’m LOVING your recipe! Saved it for later!

**Reader:** I definitely need to give this a try! Sounds delicious. By the way, you look amazing—such a lovely glow.

**Reader:** Hi Joy! Can you suggest the best cashews to buy? Also, I’m thrilled about your second book. You look fantastic!

**Joy:** I usually get my cashews from the bulk section of a health food store, which is much cheaper than packaged options. Packaging can add up to 20% to the cost, and cashews aren’t cheap to start with. Make sure to pick raw, unroasted, and unsalted ones for the best results.

**Reader:** Hi Joy! How long will this recipe keep in the fridge? Thanks, have a joyous day!

**Reader:** I really want to try making the creamy cashew and almond milk, but I think I need a better blender. Is yours a Blendtec? I know good equipment is key to making tasty dishes.

**Joy:** In the video, I’m using a Blendtec, but I actually prefer my Vitamix overall. The Blendtec is in my office because it’s lightweight, but both have their pros and cons. There are many excellent blenders priced between $200 and $250, so you don’t need to splurge on a Vitamix. Hope this helps!

**Reader:** How long does this last in the fridge before spoiling? Thanks!

**Kate (Joyous Health Team):** Hi Michelle, it should keep for up to a week.

**Reader:** Your almond milk gives me gas pains, even though I use organic ingredients. What can I do differently?

**Kate (Joyous Health Team):** Hi Bryna, not to worry! Joy has other nut and seed milk recipes on the blog you can try:

**Reader:** Where can I find vanilla bean powder in Toronto?

**Heather (Joyous Health Team):** GiddyYoYo makes great vanilla bean powder, available in most major health food stores. Try The Big Carrot or The Healthy Planet, or order online: [GiddyYoYo Vanilla Bean Powder](http://shop.giddyyoyo.com/vanilla-bean-powder-papua-new-guinea-4-oz/)
P.S. Vanilla is quite pricey these days!
